At Sigma Chi, we don’t really believe in mandatory “Community Service” or “Philanthropy.” We believe in getting involved in our local community and just giving back a little. Recently, we have volunteered our house to host an American Red Cross Blood Drive, cooked a Thanksgiving Dinner for the residents of the Casa Olga Convalescent Home, fed the homeless regularly, cleaned up local playgrounds, and built a house with the Santa Clara DGs for the Habitat for Humanity Program. In their free time, guys in our house also serve as PAAs, youth mentors and tutors, tour guides, ESL teachers, Coaches for youth sports teams, and members of the ASSU Senate.
In Spring of 2005, the Alpha Omega chapter brought back Derby Days to the Stanford Campus. Derby Days is one of Sigma Chi's most reknown events nationally combining philanthropy and fun throughout the community. This year the chapter plans to make Derby Days a much bigger event than last year and has already started organizing this major extravaganza. Please visit this site again for much more information about Derby Days 2008.
